OUR PROJECT
We’re looking for a Formulation Chemist to join a collaborative technical team focused on developing high-performance primers and topcoats for light industrial applications. This is a hands-on role that blends lab work, formulation, and real-world manufacturing support—ideal for someone who enjoys seeing their work move from concept to production.
You’ll be part of a team of 6–10 associates and will work closely with cross-functional partners across R&D, manufacturing, and operations. This role reports to the Technical Manager for Industrial Coatings within the Science & Technology team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and optimize industrial coatings, including primers and topcoats, to meet performance, quality, and cost targets
- Perform hands-on formulation, application, and testing of coatings; evaluate properties such as adhesion, durability, corrosion resistance, and finish quality
- Design and execute experiments (DOE), analyze results, and use data to guide formulation improvements
- Support manufacturing scale-up, including monitoring production batches, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring smooth transfer from lab to plant
- Provide technical support to field teams and production sites, helping resolve performance or application challenges
- Apply coatings using various methods (spray, brush, roll) based on customer and product requirements
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices in both lab and manufacturing environments
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- 5–10 years of experience in formulation, product development, or materials R&Dstandards/compliance is strongly preferred.
- Strong foundation in experimental design, data analysis, and laboratory best practices
- Experience in coatings formulation, application, and performance testing
- Familiarity with waterborne and solventborne systems, including alkyds, urethanes, acrylics, and epoxies
- Experience with 1K and 2K coating technologies
- Understanding of industrial coatings performance requirements (e.g., corrosion resistance, durability, environmental exposure)
- Experience supporting manufacturing scale-up and production environments
You must be able to work LEGALLY in the United States as NO SPONSORSHIP will be provided. NO 3rd PARTIES.
