OUR PROJECT

The Lead Systems Engineer will focus on supporting the development and integration of advanced mission and avionics systems. This project focuses on delivering highly reliable, mission critical systems, by driving requirements definition, verification, validation, and full lifecycle integration across hardware, software, and avionics platforms. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure system architectures meet operational and mission needs, overseeing technical implementation, and guiding engineers through testing, integration, and compliance activities.

This is a long-term contract that will require being onsite at the Herndon, VA facility with a 9/80 schedule. You can expect very competitive pay.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Lead Systems Engineer who combines hands-on technical experience with strong systems engineering expertise. The ideal candidate has a background in avionics or defense platforms and is comfortable leading requirements-driven engineering efforts from concept through integration and validation. You are someone who can bridge technical and leadership responsibilities, guiding engineers, translating complex mission needs into actionable requirements, and ensuring system designs meet operational, performance, and compliance standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience leading requirements definition, decomposition, verification & validation and system integration across the full lifecycle of defense or avionics systems.
  • Experience using requirements management tools such as DOORS or JAMA and familiarity with DO-178 standards/compliance is strongly preferred.
  • Coding/scripting knowledge in C, C++, Python, or equivalent for technical leadership.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance (Preferred)
